I was able to use my "Tony Hawk Ride" controller for a long time after it cracked from heavy use. They supply stick-on material for use on hard floors. The top is textured, so you don't slip off, and the bottom is shaped so you can swing the skateboard around on carpeting. It is very sturdy - it didn't make any cracking noises with my fat self on it, so no kid is going to damage this thing without trying pretty hard. The skateboard I had as a kid was smaller than this thing. The board itself was a pleasant surprise - the package was BIG. And you can put your hands down as if you were grabbing the board (you only have to get close). You can start by "kicking off," swinging your leg as if you were pushing off on pavement. Those sensors, by the way, are for sensing your hands and feet during play. I did this, and had no problems calibrating the board. The instructions say to leave a 4 foot radius around the board while calibrating (and, I suppose, while playing). So it is important that you don't have anything in the field of view of the other three sensors while you do this. Calibration is just a matter of pushing on the board with your foot in each direction, which both tilts the board and covers up the sensor. The skateboard controller has sensors at the front, back, left and right sides. Also, I just got the game today, and haven't had much time to play. Obviously, the big issue with this product is the trouble people have had calibrating the skateboard controller, so that's what I'll review. I'm sad that they just couldn't get it right with the H/W aspect to make it a full experience. The implication, is that if you purchase this from an individual person selling on Amazon was that they might NOT cover that warranty.Īctivision support has been AWESOME and I have enjoyed working with them but, I have to believe, the hardware in the boards should be been designed to be a bit more robust. The Activision tech did say he would only cover the warranty because I purchased it from company. I am now awaiting my third, and what will be my final board one way or another. I contacted Activision and they were very good about sending a replacement at no charge. I tried all the manual troubleshooting and Activision's/greater world wide web troubleshooting too. I went to switch to the snowboarding mode and the front and rear sensors on the board died. It actually stopped working immediately after I finished a skateboard run. It calibrated easily the first time, right out of the box.) (I did not have any of the calibration issues that other people mentioned at the start. I've enjoyed the soundtrack with the game and have played it about 3 hours before the board stopped working. The game itself is a lot of fun and can be played even by my 3 year old if you help out a bit. I now have a 3 and 5 year old and thought this game might be a fun way to introduce them to the world, even if it was pretend, of skateboarding. I'm a child of the 80's and was an avid skateboarder back then and can remember Slimeball wheels and all those other wonderful things besides high interest rates.
